PART 3: RECOGNIZE MY WHAT?

You are Value

The VALUE that you are, of course!

Who of you were taught to recognize the value that you are?

How could something so important to your experience of life be so overlooked?

And because it has been overlooked are you always looking for someone or something to give you the value that you already are?

Perhaps you look for it through approval from others, looking good, being right, being the best, having all of the right material possessions, and a whole lot more.

If so, it's time to recognize the value that you are!

Things and Stuff

Step 3 is learning to recognize the value that you are.

Of course, its easier to recognize the value that you are when you understand it.

Here's why you are the value that you are...

Your value is inherent. Its existence in you is permanent. It is a constant that never waivers regardless of circumstances, no matter what.

Your value is intrinsic. It belongs to the fundamental nature of you. It is a natural part of you.

Woman without Gravity

The existence of the value that you are is like the existence of gravity. You don't have to do the math of gravity to know it exists. You don't question its existence. You know for a fact it exists.

Similarly, you don't have to question the existence of the value that you are. You can know for a fact that the value that you are exists.

The value that you are, like gravity, is an immutable law. It is unchanging over time and unable to be changed. It is constant. It is permanent and never waivers.

Simply, you are the value that you are because you exist and will always be the value that you are as long as you exist.

The value that you are is not attached to who you are, what you are, what you do, what you have, or what you know.

I repeat! You don't have to be, do, have, or know anything in partcular to be the value that you are. In fact you don't have to be, do, have, or know anything at all to be the value that you are.

You Are Value

It is sooooo simple. You are the value that you are because you were born and you exist! Period.

End of sentence.

Exploration and Discovery

Before we go any further, let's get clear about the distinction between...

You ARE THE VALUE THAT YOU ARE - its existence within you is a natural part of you and is permanent.

You HAVE VALUE - the worth attributed to yourself by you and others based upon the importance of your usefulness to include the quality given to what you are. do, have, or know.

You HAVE VALUES - your principles or standards of behavior, your judgment of what is important in life.

You VALUE SOMEONE OR SOMETHING - your estimated worth or opinion of someone or something to be important or beneficial to you.

You are VALUED BY OTHERS - those who value you for what you contribute as a famly member, friend, coworker, supervisor, employee, employer, etc., or for what you are, do, have, or know.

Here's a TIP to better recognize the value that you are.

The value that you are is different from having value.

The value that you are is different from having values.

The value that you are is different from valuing someone or something.

The value that you are is different from being valued by others.

Remember what I said earlier...

The value that you are is constant. Its existence in you is permanent and never waivers.

In contrast, having value, having values, who or what you value, and being valued by others are in a state of constant flux. They are often dependent upon someone or something outside of you and can change from moment to moment based upon the way you think about them.

Exploration and Discovery

Which of the following societal happy codes do you need to give you value?

  • You are well-liked.
  • You are popular and have lots of friends.
  • You are successful.
  • You are physically attractive.
  • You are intelligent.
  • You have the right family tree.
  • You have the right education/degrees.
  • You live in the right house in the right neighborhood.
  • You drive the best car possible.
  • You have a large bank balance.
  • You are often seen with all the right people.
  • You are often seen in all the right places.
  • etc. etc. etc.

If you said yes to any of the above list THEN HEAR THIS...

     NOT SO!

NOTE: The value that you are is NOT dependent upon someone or something outside of you.

It is NOT dependent upon what others think about you.

It is NOT even dependent upon what YOU think about YOU!

What others think vs what you think

Here's an example...

Award-winning celebrity Meryl Streep was invited by the movie director of the 1976 "King Kong" Movie to audition for the role of Dwan only to be told by the movie producer she was ugly and not pretty enough for the part.

She could have let that kind of remark destroy her career, but she didn't let it stop her. She responded "that's just one person's opinion."

Never allow yourself to be defined by someone else's opinion of you.

The majority of people might not respond in the same way. And yet it is important to know that no matter whether it is Meryl Streep's positive response or someone else's negative response, the unkind remark CANNOT affect the value that you are.

In fact, NO response to anyone's unkind words, whether negative or positive, can affect the value that you are!

Eleanor Roosevelt Quote

Opinions are just opinions

and

Responses are just responses.

They have no meaning except the meaning you give them with the way you think about them.

The value that you are never waivers. It is NOT dependent upon someone else's opinion of you.

And just as important...it is NOT even dependent upon your own opinion of you.

The value that you are IS.

The value that you are is NOT attached to your gender, sexual orientation, social status, skin color, or culture, either.

Being Different

NOTE: You can have a poor opinion of your skin color and wish it was different, but your skin color doesn't have anything to do with the value that you are...

IT'S YOUR SKIN COLOR AND NOT YOUR VALUE.

Exploration and Discovery

In your opinion, which of the following persons IS the most of the value that they are? In other words, they ARE more value than all of the others...

Person # 1, #2, #3, #4, #5, or #6?

Person #1.  This person sits by the water's edge and count waves all day long.

Person #2.  This person works his/her way up the corporate ladder to the executive corner office.

Person #3.  This person has inherited massive wealth without working for it.

Person #4. This person is a person without a home (homeless).

Person #5. This person has a genius IQ.

Person #6. This person regularly drinks too much alcohol and/or uses too many drugs.

In your opinion...Who IS the most value that they are in the examples given above?

Here's a TIP... The value that you are is separate from what you are, do, have, or know.

All equal in value

The correct answer is... they are all equal in the value that they are.

You don't have to do, have, or know anything to be the value that you are.

You don't have to prove to yourself or others that you are the value that you are.

If you are like most of society, you bought into the societal happy code that taught you to think the only way that you can be the value that you are is to be, do, have, or know something extradorinary. NOT SO!

Societal Happy Code

Here's what most of us have been taught about the value that we are instead.

We have been taught that having value (not to be mistaken for the value that we are) is dependent upon the list that follows and more...

Most of society was taught a lot about how to have value but little or nothing about the value they are, much less how to recognize it.

  • Our potential determines our value.
  • Ignoring our potential decreases our value.
  • We have value If we have goals.
  • Where we're heading in life determines our value.
  • We are valued if we make a difference in the lives of others.

You got it! As If that isn't enough, there's more...

  • The value we have is dependent upon the contribution we make to society.
  • Value from others depends on our worth as an employee.
  • The value we have is dependent upon our financial worthiness.
  • Oh yeah......and much more.

I'm sure you could add to this list and yet what difference would a longer list make in being able to recognize the value that you are?

Instead, let's move on to Part Four: RETRAIN YOUR BRAIN where you will learn how to remove your happy code blockers.
